BD Bactec Blood Culture Media

BD BACTEC™ Blood Culture Systems utilizes the breadth of current media – from resin-containing Plus media, and Lytic to PEDs and special media for yeast, fungi or mycobacteria recovery – to support your different patient population and blood culture needs.

Our patented BD BACTEC resin media have been shown to effectively neutralize a wide variety of antibiotics, allowing growth of microorganisms that may not occur with conventional media. This greater recovery leads to more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment, which can in turn lead to shorter hospital stays, lower patient costs, and greater overall laboratory and institutional efficiency.

The new BD BACTEC™ Plastic Bottles, the latest addition to the BD BACTEC™ range increase lab convenience while maintaining high quality standards.

Description

BD BACTEC™ Lytic Anaerobic medium is an anaerobic medium designed to increase the detection and recovery of anaerobes. It contains a detergent to lyse both red and white blood cells present in the sample, releasing any intracellular organisms. BD BACTEC™ Plus Aerobic medium is an all-purpose, enriched soybean-casein digest broth medium capable of supporting the growth of aerobic organisms. This medium contains resins for antibiotic neutralization. BD BACTEC™ Peds Plus™ media are specialised media that accommodate small-volume samples to help optimally detect common paediatric and nonpaediatric organisms. An enriched soybean-casein digest broth, the medium contains resins for antibiotic neutralisation. BD BACTEC™ Myco/F Lytic culture medium when used with the BD BACTEC fluorescent series instruments is a nonselective culture medium to be used as an adjunct to aerobic blood culture media for the recovery of mycobacteria, yeast and fungi from blood. This medium may also be used for the culture of sterile body fluids when yeast or fungi are suspected.
